Make the most of the silly season

Yes, here we are, singing Jingle Bells, doing our best not to overdo things at the office Christmas party and looking forward to a little time out before 2015 begins in earnest.

Generally the job market goes off the boil from Christmas to January, with most companies putting recruitment on hold until the last rays of summer.

But if you want to make the most of the coming year – and make your next career move a significant one – we suggest you also make the most of the silly season.

We’re not suggesting you down the turkey leg mid-meal, but if you’re taking a break, why not use the time – and the clear head – to reflect on where you’ve come from and to visualise where you’re going, career wise, in the coming year. It’s a great opportunity to refine your career goals.

If you have the time, you may also like to review your CV, brush up on your interview techniques and do a little industry research.

But really, the starting point is to establish what you want and where you are headed. Once this is sorted, you’re ready to develop an action plan for the future.
